The dental wax rim also aids in determining the centric relation (CR), which is the most retruded position of the mandible (lower jaw) in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)

The dental wax rim is used to record the patient’s bite registration, which is the relationship between the upper and lower jaws when the patient bites down.
